Lockdown stories... Hopley Tyres

At Hopley Tyres, we’ve been a brick and mortar garage with a physical presence in the Holmes Chapel area for almost 50 years. Started by my parents Dudley & Kath Hopley back in 1972, we’ve grown ever since, relocating to our current Cranage depot in 1985 with myself joining the family business in 2003.

However, when lockdown struck, we decided to adapt to enable the firm to be able to do business, with an increase in our mobile tyre fitting service at no extra cost to the customer.

Having already operated an on-site tyre fitting and repair service for our agricultural & commercial tyre customers for many years we’re no strangers to mobile tyre fitting. In 2019 we invested in a fully kitted out mobile tyre fitting van but this was used primarily for helping out customers with roadside emergencies and specific call-out work and not a core part of the business.

Initially we were uncertain as to how it would develop but during the pandemic interest in our mobile service has rocketed as people are self isolating and keeping travel to a minimum but still need their cars to maintain mobility in case of emergency, so much so that we’re considering adding another vehicle into the fleet to cater for demand.

It’s a perfect solution for those working from home, adhering to lockdown rules or just concerned about visiting business premises. With the same service as in store, but the tyres are fitted at your home at a time convenient to you.

All communication can be done via phone, payment made by card over the phone. Order your tyres for next day fitting at no extra cost. We will knock on the door to let you know we have arrived, you can then unlock your car from your front door or your window, leave the locking wheel nut key available and your invoice will be emailed to you. Absolutely no need to come outside or breach social distancing, no physical contact needed whatsoever!

We haven’t just been fitting tyres either. Coming out of the first lockdown back in June people found themselves with cars that hadn’t been used for weeks or months, stuck at home with punctures, flat batteries or just concerned about the road worthiness of their vehicles. Again we found our mobile service in high demand, repairing punctures, jump-starting cars and replacing batteries all at customer’s homes.

For those preferring to visit us in person we’re still open five days a week with all precautions in place to make our workplace as safe as possible for customers and staff alike. We have plastic screens in our reception area and a new outside sheltered waiting area. Our staff are wearing masks when greeting the public, following social distancing guidelines and changing gloves and washing hands between each and every job.

Thanks for your business during these challenging times, small independent businesses like mine really appreciate (and need) your support.
